Field Trips

Field geology has been an integral part of my life since graduate school. Probably the best place to learn geology is in the field, and I regard the region within a two-hour drive of the University of Tennessee-Knoxville campus as one of the best places in the world to learn any kind of geology. Therefore, I have spent and continue to spend large amounts of time taking students, professionals, and even non-geologists to the field to show them the relationships between structures and deformation, rock units, metamorphism, and igneous activity for them to learn and for me to learn from their comments. My students and I also participate in field trips led by others in this region and other regions throughout the US and the rest of the world, when opportunities arise.
